Summary

This case report details the simultaneous infection of a cat and a dog within the same household by an identical strain of CTX-M-14 extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli ST162. The cat presented with a urinary tract infection, while the dog developed cholangiohepatitis. Genetic analysis confirmed the same E. coli strain was responsible for both infections, highlighting interspecies transmission. This finding underscores the potential for multidrug-resistant bacteria to spread between pets in close living environments, posing significant challenges for treatment and public health. This household dissemination emphasizes the need for comprehensive infection control.

Key note: Household pets can share the same multidrug-resistant bacterial strains, necessitating a One Health approach.
